Bobby Walker Johnson

November 17, 1942 — July 11, 2018

Bobby Walker Johnson died peacefully at his home on July 11, 2018. Born November 17, 1942, Bobby was the only child of Ansel Walker and Katie Elizabeth (Carmen) Johnson. He lived his entire life in the Greenville area. He is survived by two daughters, Alison Paige Johnson of Lexington, SC and Elizabeth Ashley Johnson of Greenville.

Bobby attended Taylors High School and Wade Hampton High School graduating in 1961. He starred in football. He then attended North Greenville College for two years. After several jobs and service in the US Army Reserve from 1964 to 1969, he returned to college and completed a BA Degree in Psychology at Southern Wesleyan University in 1969. Bobby helped start the Children’s Program of Marshall Pickens Hospital and was on staff until 1978. Afterwards, he began a 25-year career as a custom in-ground pool builder. Over those 25 years, he was sole proprietor of Johnson Pools and proudly installed over 400 pools in Upstate South Carolina without one dissatisfied client. Due to two cerebral hemorrhages in September 2004, he could no longer physically continue his work pace and regrettably took disability retirement. Even after his early retirement, Bobby continued to live each day to the fullest.

Bobby was an active member of Daybreak Community Church. A celebration of Bobby’s life will be held at the church on Sunday afternoon, July 15, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Daybreak Community Church, 37 E. Hillcrest Drive, Greenville, SC 29609.
