Dr. James Hugh Cannon

Greenville, South Carolina – Dr. James Hugh Cannon, 79, of Greenville and formerly of Maryville, Tennessee, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 with his wife of 28 years, Grace Ann Fields Cannon, by his side. Dr. Cannon is also survived by his sons and grandchildren: Paul Cannon of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and his daughter, Chloe; Alan Cannon (Mandy) of Knoxville, Tennessee and their son, Drew; and Eric Cannon of Lancaster, South Carolina and his sons, Zachary, Nicolas and Peter of Lincoln, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvage Lothair (“Jack”) Cannon and Irene Elizabeth Savage Cannon, and his sisters, Ann Sullins (Robert) and Brenda Gregg (Wayne).

Dr. Cannon worked as a school counselor in Knox County, Tennessee and retired in 2001 from South-Doyle High School. He spent much time caring for his farm near Maryville, as well as enjoying many special times with his wife, children, grandchildren and his extended family and special friends.

Dr. Cannon’s personal life was true to his upbringing by studying the Holy Bible, and he earned his doctoral degree of philosophy in biblical studies during his retirement years. He often shared his favorite passage from the book of Hosea, Chapter 11, as an encouragement to others because of its message of God’s love and compassion for His people.

A private service will be held at a later date. Please pass along an act of kindness as a memorial.
