Nancy Jean White Curtis was called home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 09:36am. She was 78 years of age.
Nancy was born in Lenoir County, North Carolina on August 20, 1939 and was the daughter of the late Nina Iola White.
Nancy Jean is survived by her husband, Gene Russell Curtis whom is the son of the late Oscar Merritt Curtis and Matilda Smith Curtis. Gene is 76 years old and has been married to Nancy for 43 years. Other surviving family members are three sons: Christopher Russell Curtis residing in Travelers Rest, SC, Jackson Russell Curtis residing in Taylors, SC, and Earl Daughety residing in Kinston, NC; four daughters: Christina Curtis-Savage residing in Loganville, GA, Patricia Ann Curtis residing in Danville, VA, Wanda Parker residing in Rocky Mount, NC, and Teresa Daughety Jones residing in Kinston, NC; aunt: Lena White residing in Kinston, NC; niece: Marie White residing in Kinston, NC; nephew: Harvey White residing in Raleigh, NC; 17 Grand Children and 11 Great Grand Children.
Nancy grew up in Kinston, N.C. where she attended Cantentnea High School before moving to Florida. It was in Jacksonville, Fla where Nancy worked in a cigar factory. In approximately 1974, Nancy moved to Dothan, Alabama where she met her sailor of a husband, Gene Russell Curtis, and worked as a microfiche recorder. Gene Russell Curtis and Nancy Jean White were married in Donaldsonville, Georgia on March 29, 1975. Nancy moved to Columbia, South Carolina with her Husband in the latter part of 1975 due to his job transfer. Again, in 1979 and 1981, work demanded that Gene and Nancy relocate. First to Monroe, Michigan and then to Greenville, South Carolina. It was only in the last few years that the Curtis’ moved to Travelers Rest where Nancy, Gene, and their son, Christopher, happily settled down.
Nancy was a God loving woman whom cherished reading the Bible, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. Nancy had an enormous heart for taking care of people in need and it was this passion that led both Gene and Nancy to open and operate a children’s home in 1982. The home wasn’t closed until 1988 but it was during this six-year period that over 200 children were provided with nourishment, shelter, kinship and most of all…never ending LOVE and SUPPORT!
