Samuel Mitchell Powell
October 22, 1939 — January 8, 2018
Mitchell Powell, husband of Judy Landreth Powell, passed away on Sunday January 7; 2018 at Richard M Campbell Veterans Nursing Home at the age of 78.
Mitchell was born on October 22, 1939 in Cateechee, SC to Gurley T Powell and Bertha Dodson Powell. He was a pilot for Winn Dixie Stores.
In addition to his wife Mitchell is survived by children Benny (Sheri) Powell of Franklin, NC Michelle Warren of Kernersville, NC and Michael Jackson (Wendy) of Greenville, SC , grandchildren Chelsea Powell, Addison Powell and DJ Jackson. Great grandchild Owen Jackson . He is survived by brother Larry (Anna) Powell of Boynton Beach, Florida and sister JoAn Taylor of Columbia, SC. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Russell (Sarah) Powell and John Powell.
A memorial service will be held on Monday January 15, 2018 at Calvary First Baptist Church at 11 Tampa Street in Greenville, SC 29609. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM with service following at 11:00 AM
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Patriot Hospice at 54 Bear Drive, Greenville, SC 29605 or to Calvary First Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank the staff of unit 604, the therapy department at Richard M Campbell Veterans Nursing Home and the Patriot Hospice workers for their excellent care of Mitchell.
