Arlie Otis DeLaney

November 6, 1940 — August 9, 2020

Arlie “Otis” DeLaney, age 79, went peacefully to heaven on August 9, 2020 at White Oak at North Grove nursing home in Spartanburg, SC.
He was preceded by his parents Carl M. and Macie Moore DeLaney of Concord, TN and one sister, Carolyn DeLaney. He is survived by his brother Jim L. DeLaney of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and his children, Debbie (Bill) Extein of Simpsonville, SC, Carl (Kel)DeLaney of Lexington, SC and Brenda (Mark) Byrd of Simpsonville, SC. He was blessed with six grandchildren, Ashlan (Ezra) Burns, Courtney Roberts, Elizabeth DeLaney Perry, Will DeLaney, Kelsey Byrd, Jensen Byrd and one great granddaughter, Eloree Burns. He also had a nephew John (Kimberly) DeLaney and their son Harrison DeLaney of Hendersonville, TN.
Otis was born on November 6, 1940 in Knoxville, TN and grew up in Concord, TN at the family home. He professed his faith at age 14 and was baptized at Gallagher Memorial Baptist Church in Knoxville, TN.
Otis was most known for his love of basketball and baseball and he excelled in both sports. He attended Farragut High from 1954-57 playing forward in basketball and pitcher for baseball. He was a Co-Captain of the baseball team and played on All Tournament and All Star teams for basketball. His senior year he transferred to West High School where he continued to lead in both sports. He was awarded a full baseball scholarship to Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. He met his future wife Sharon O’Beirne at Rollins and they were married for 25 years. His career included work as a geologist for the Department of Interiors in Washington, DC, a stock broker in DC, and an advertising manager in building supplies at GBS Lumber in Mauldin, SC. He enjoyed playing golf and watching the University of Tennessee sports along with many other teams.
His family will have a time of remembrance in Knoxville, TN at a date to be determined.
