Calvin White Townsend, 90, of Greer, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at his home. He was a Faithful Member of the Progress Baptist Church in Hendersonville, North Carolina and he served his country with Honor as a Member of the United States Army during the Korean Era. Calvin will be remembered by his family for his love of gardening and greenhouses, using a Dowsing Rod in order to help find ground water and spending time with his family.
Calvin is preceded in death by his parents, Ed Townsend and Julia (Walker) Townsend; his wife, Dora Rogers Townsend; his daughter, Mary St. John; his grandson, Jason Townsend and his great grandson, Jack Voyles. Those who will most cherish his memory are his sons, Larry, Roger, Jonathan, Joseph, Michael and Aaron; his daughters, Linda Anders, Sherry Kindhart, Rebecca Bourdess and Sarah Voyles; fifty-one grandchildren and forty-six great grandchildren and three more on the way; his two brothers, Dwight Townsend and Robert Townsend; three sisters, Mary Royal, Emily Wishert and Sue Wiley.
A gathering of Calvin’s family and friends for a time of reflection and sharing will be from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. Friday, August 9, 2019 at the First Baptist Church - Conastee, 145 Second Street, Conestee, South Carolina 29636. Services will be at 3:00 P.M. at the Church. Officiating the services will be Pastors Doug Raynes and Larry Raynes. Rites of Committal and Interment will follow the services where he will be laid to rest next to his wife at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 14050 East Wade Hampton Blvd., Greer, South Carolina 29651.
