    Carl 'Cecil' Snead

    January 7, 1936 - March 1, 2022

Carl “Cecil” Snead passed away quietly on Tuesday evening, March 1, 2022. Cecil was born in Russell County, Virginia on January 7, 1936, to Paul and Minnie Snead. There, as a young man, he met and married his beloved forever-wife, Jeanette, with whom he had four children. After first working for Esso and Exxon in Bluefield, Virginia, then Exxon in Charleston, West Virginia, he was transferred to Spartanburg, South Carolina. It was there he eventually retired from Exxon after a 35-year career. Having been a working man from the age of 13, Cecil found being unemployed didn’t quite scratch his “need to work” itch. After five years of retirement, he happily took a job with Spartanburg Water Works, where he finally wound up his working days in 2021. Those who knew Cecil knew him to be a family man. He is survived by his children, Keith, Joe (Jewell), Julia (Chip), and Conley (Tina); six grandchildren, Morgan and Eliza Snead, Marianna and Lee Allen, Hailey and Victoria Snead; and one great-grandson, August Lee Allen. Cecil was predeceased by one grandson, Manuel Torres, Keith’s son. A celebratory drop-in will be held in Cecil’s honor on Thursday, March 17 from 5:30 - 7:00 PM. It will be in the Fellowship Hall located below the main sanctuary at Bethel Methodist Church. Two pastors who knew Cecil well will each say a few words starting at 6:00 PM, after which light refreshments will be served. In lieu of flowers, it would make Cecil happy to know contributions were instead made to Mobile Meals, an organization he loved. Cremation Society of SC-Westville Funerals
