Carol Holmes Grubbs

June 4, 1938 — June 26, 2018

Carol Holmes Grubbs, 80, of Simpsonville, SC, died at home, on Tuesday, June 26, 2018.

She was born in Clover, SC, to the late Walter E. and Martha M. Holmes. Carol enjoyed people, laughter, food, music and art. She was the top cheerleader for all her family members, whatever their undertakings. Her mind was curious and her heart was kind towards everyone.

She filled many roles in her long and interesting life: first and foremost, she was a woman of faith; she grew up in the Southern Baptist tradition and migrated to Methodism later in life. In addition, Carol was a lifelong student of everything from decorating to cooking; she was also an accomplished musician, serving as an organist and pianist for churches and other groups from her adolescence until last year, when she directed and accompanied the Senior Singers at the Simpsonville Senior Center. Carol was a beloved teacher of youth and adults in piano, organ, and chorus singing. She was an artist in the media of acrylics and water colors, specializing in landscapes, several of which were acquired by Greenville Health System. Additionally, she was a business woman, performing inside sales for industrial metals. She was a life-long entrepreneur who built a successful retirement business offering custom art. In the last decade of her life, she turned to volunteer work serving at both Meals on Wheels and Hillcrest Medical Hospital.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, William J. Grubbs, Jr., and three adoring children, son John B. Grubbs (Dorothy) Old Fort, NC and daughters Jill Grubbs Niethammer, Simpsonville, and Amy Grubbs Dawson (Patrick), Richardson, TX, plus twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the Simpsonville United Methodist Church on Sunday, July 1, at 2:00, followed by the memorial service at 3:00 at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Carol’s honor be made to the American Heart Association.

The family would like to thank Robbie, Tina, and Katie of Compassus Hospice for their loving care and tremendous support.
