Clara Lee Dedmon Shive

Clara Lee Dedmon Shive, 96, of Greenville, died Sunday, January 23, 2022.
She was born in Shelby, North Carolina on January 6, 1926, a daughter of the late Flayvin Sextus Dedmon and Margaret Jane Dedmon. She graduated from Shelby High School in 1943.
Clara Lee then graduated from Mars Hill College in 1944 and Meredith College in 1946. She then begin teaching high school in Gastonia, North Carolina, where she met her future husband, Lowell Andrew Shive, who predeceases her in death. They were married on August 21, 1948.
She is survived by three sons and their wives, Jerry Dedmon Shive and his wife, Marsha, Reverend Dr. Ronald Lowell Shive and his wife, Pam of Burlington, North Carolina, Reverend Dr. Stephen Andrew Shive and his wife, Doris of Timnath, Colorado; six grandchildren, Charles Andrew Shive and wife, Kyle, Emily Terrell Dean, Megan Shive Cifuni and her husband, Marc, Colin Alexander Shive, Claire Dellinger Shive, and Jordan Thomas Shive; and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law Doris Dedmon and Joanne Shufford Dedmon, both of Shelby. Clara Lee is also predeceased in death by three brothers William Flayvin Dedmon, Carl Talmadge Dedmon, and Eugene Alexander Dedmon, a sister Sara Rachel Dedmon, and a sister-in-law Betty Spangler Dedmon.
Clara Lee was a business education teacher for thirty years, having taught in Gastonia, North Carolina, Graham, North Carolina, Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Greenville, South Carolina. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was also a member of the Agape Sunday School Class and actively involved in the Presbyterian Women. Clara Lee enjoyed participating in her garden club and book club, playing bridge and golf, and doing needlepoint.
A memorial service will be on Wednesday, February 9, 11:00 a.m.at First Presbyterian Church, Greenville, SC with Reverend Stan Johnson and Reverend Dr. Steve Shive officiating. The family will receive friends in the Church Parlor following the service.
