Donald "Don" Beidler

Donald “Don” Beidler (85) of Lyman, S.C., passed away on Monday, February 1st, 2021 at home. Born in Philadelphia, he lived in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and later New Jersey. Don graduated from Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art with a Major in Advertising Design and a minor in Illustration. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Art Education from New York University in 1959. Upon his graduation, Don was drafted into the Army and was honorably discharged in 1961. He received a Master of Fine Arts Degree in 1971 from Rutgers University.

Don’s teaching career spanned 33 years during which time he taught art at the Elementary, High School, and College levels. Throughout those years he also taught adult art classes in various locations. In addition to his career as an Art Educator, Don has worked as a Cartoonist, Illustrator, and Commercial Artist. His artwork has been exhibited in shows throughout New Jersey and South Carolina. He served as County Coordinator for the Monmouth County Teen Arts Festival for three years and was selected in 1992 for the Governor’s Teacher of the year recognition.

After retiring from teaching in 1994, Don moved to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Don was a family man whose wit and humor delighted all who knew him. During his retirement years, he could often be found painting, drawing, gardening, landscaping, and volunteering for local charities.

He is survived by his loving wife Carol, their four children Scott (Diane), Douglas (Shannan), Bradford, and Lauren (Adam Sheriff), eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
