Doris Pinel Scheidegger

March 11, 1933 — March 24, 2021

Doris (Pinel) Scheidegger, 88, passed away peacefully at home on March 24, 2021, in Greenville, SC.
Doris was predeceased by her husband, Marcel E Scheidegger in 2010. She is survived by her children, Paul and his wife Barbara Scheidegger of White Plains, NY, Carolyn and her husband Rob Allen of Lincoln City, OR and Helene Coleman of Greenville, SC. Doris was proud of her grandchildren, Michael Scheidegger of Bronx, NY, Elizabeth Angell of Kelly, NC, and Kate Angell of Taylors, SC.

Doris was born in Quincy, MA, and raised in Weymouth, MA. She spent many fond summers at her grandparent's home on the shores of Maine, where she gathered wild blueberries and drank raw milk. After graduating from Bridgewater State Teachers College, she moved to Hartford, CT where she taught Second Grade. In 1956, she met (on a blind date) and married Marcel E. Scheidegger of Basel, Switzerland, and began a life of world travel along with their three children and being an inspiration to them.

Doris had amazing talent as a party hostess having many magnificent parties over the years in her various homes both in the States and Europe. She had the ability to make everyone feel connected and welcomed. In her later years, she attended OLLI classes at Furman University in Greenville, SC. Doris had a deep love of learning new things and expanding her mind. It was here that she discovered her love of pen & ink art, further developing her talent and skills as an artist.

Together with her husband, Doris had the opportunity to travel and see much of the world during their life together. Her favorite places to visit were Hawaii, Australia, and New Zealand. She very much loved her time living in Mexico and in England, but always returned to her roots in New England.

Doris left a heartfelt impact on everyone who met her, especially her children and grandchildren. She was always warm, welcoming, and giving of herself. She is perhaps best known for her American Chop Suey which was routinely served to her children and their friends.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice Care. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her favorite PBS station at ETV Endowment, 401 E. Kennedy Street, Suite B-1, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
