Frederick Henderson Duncan

August 7, 1927 — December 15, 2018

Frederick Henderson Duncan, 91, of Clemson, passed away on December 15, 2018, in Anderson, SC. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his family.

Graveside services and burial will be for immediate family only on January 5, 2019, at Woodlawn Cemetery on the Clemson University campus. Arrangements are by Cremation Society of South Carolina – Westville Funeral Home of Greenville.

Frederick was born in Clemson to Ruth Henderson and Walter Duncan on August 7, 1927. He went to school at Calhoun-Clemson. He married Martha Ann Hunnicutt on October 27, 1950, in Seneca, SC. He attended Clemson University, where he studied engineering. He worked as a textile color chemist for Milliken for 42 years. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy, aboard the battleship USS Iowa. He was awarded the Victory Medal. He was a lifelong Tiger fan (especially football), enjoying their victory over the Gamecocks shortly before his death. He received several awards in his life, but he was most proud of the patents he developed while working for Milliken.

Frederick is survived by his daughters Freda (Phil) Dockins and Carla Duncan Brewer; his granddaughters Beth Brewer and Erin Brewer; his grandson, Chase (Brandie) Brewer; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann, of 64 years.

Memorials may be given to Upstate Warrior Solution or the American Heart Association. The family of Frederick wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Anmed Medical Center, especially the palliative care team, who were a source of strength and comfort; family, friends and neighbors who visited and provided help – and who have continued to provide support and love.
