On September 1, 2019, Fumiko Lehman (Ishikawa), 88, of Greenville, S.C., went peacefully into the presence of her Savior.
Fumiko was born in Chiba, Japan, to Ishtaro and Tomei Ishikawa. She was one of seven children. She married her soldier sweetheart, Clyde Lehman, in 1949. They made their home in Telford, PA, and their family grew to include four daughters and one son.
Fumiko worked at various garment factories over the years, where she honed her expertise as a seamstress, while also raising five children. She had a passion for cooking and enjoyed sharing her culinary creations, Japanese and American, with family and friends. Next to cooking, Fumie loved to eat! One of her favorite treats was grandson Justin’s musubi. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a constant source of joy. She delighted in bathing the babies, treating the toddlers, and feeding the hungry teens. The grandchildren always looked forward to visits with their Japanese Grammy and had many belly laughs together when she muddled her English words and phrases in hilarious verbal concoctions. Grammy will be sorely missed!
Fumiko was preceded in death by her son Ronald, and her granddaughter, Stacey Savitske. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Clyde Lehman; her children, Mary Ann Sandusky, Carol Kistler, Jean (Steve) Vanning, Nancy (Daryl) Lynn; her grandchildren, Mark, Eric, Charla, Jared, Jesse, Justin, DJ, Jeremy, Micah, Vanessa, Zachary, Joanna; 17 great grandchildren; sisters, Haruko, Shiziko, Yoshko; and many more extended family members.
There will be a memorial service for Fumiko in Silverdale, PA, at a date to be announced later.
