James Edwin Daughtry

October 17, 1931 — February 6, 2021

James Edwin "Jim" Daughtry
Greenville- James Edwin "Jim" Daughtry, 89, of Greenville, SC died, peacefully, in his sleep on Saturday, February 6, 2021.
He was predeceased by his parent's brothers and sisters. He attended Charleston public schools. Later, he graduated from Furman University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (in Wake Forest, NC).
Jim is a child of God and served as Minister, Music Minister, Youth Minister, Sunday School teacher, and other key positions at First Baptist Church in Charleston, SC. Rosemary Baptist Church, Chockoyotte Baptist Church NC, Central Baptist Church in Darlington, SC, Kilbourne Park Baptist Church in Columbia, SC, Woodfield Park Baptist Church, and First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Greenville, SC. He attended the Hall Psychiatric Institute for 2 years and later retired with the Greenville Area Mental Health Center.
Jim worked within the community of faith to help achieve desegregation while looking forward to a world of social justice. He was instrumental in bringing the Billy Graham Crusades to Columbia in the late 1960s. He marched alongside Corretta Scott King in Atlanta in 1970. Jim was instrumental in creating the Cross-Cultural Council in Greenville, SC. He was a part of creating the Rape Crisis Hotline.
He is also "one in a million" in that not only did he make a hole in one, but he also witnessed a meteorite as it passed by him while on vacation. And, if you've never heard him tell that story, you are one in a million, too.
In addition to his wife, Pat, Jim is survived by four children, Jed, Beth, Perry, and Andy(Sandy); seven grandchildren, Brittany (Neil) and Eric (Casey), PJ, Grace, Lauren, Cara, and Josh; three great-grandchildren, Aria, Anja and Lukas; sister and brother-in-law Betty, Mike and Bill(Pam); and too many nieces and nephews to count.
The family is thankful for the extended family of friends and congregants that have been so important to them for so many years. We will be looking forward to seeing you all post-covid when we can gather, remember, rejoice, laugh and cry together, as the people of God do.
Service, celebration, and interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please support your local church, synagogue, or charity of your choice. Thanks be to God.
