John M. Brogdon, Jr
July 4, 1975 – November 24, 2020

John was a loving and devoted father of three wonderful children whom he loved more than anything in this world. He taught them to think for themselves, stand up for themselves, and never stop learning. He was a hands-on, down on the floor building and playing, kisser of boo-boos with an open piggyback ride at the first request. His absence will be felt a lifetime by Oscar (10), Charlotte (8), and Jonah (5).

A lover of art, design, cool toys, and especially music, he would not hesitate to impart his opinions on what was great and what was garbage whether you asked or not. He passionately loved music and experienced many blissful moments dancing with people he loved, or surrounded by sweaty fellow concert-goers. He was a great musical influence on countless people, turning them on to new music, which he took great pride in.

John had a tender heart and would give anyone in need the shirt off his back. His wit was quick and he could charm almost anyone with his warm nature. He was affectionate, helpful, and thoughtful, and to know him was to have seen and felt those qualities. He was the kind of guy that would bend down to tie your shoe for you in the middle of a crowded sidewalk. He took pride in completing any project to the best of his ability. He was skilled at doing about any sort of handy work and if he didn’t know how to do it you could rest assured he was going to figure it out, preferably while wearing a pair of coveralls we enjoyed referring to as his “speed suit”. He built extensive collections of STEM toy systems for the kids and organized them into great towering stacks of totes that were carefully curated to best provide the user-friendly experience he insisted upon. He had a fantastic eye for design and we greatly enjoyed working together on labels and marketing materials for the soap company we proudly built, Brogdon Family Formulas. He was unapologetically honest about what he felt worked visually, and what did not, which always helped both in our company and in my work.

He loved a good, hoppy IPA, street tacos, sushi, and good southern cooking, although none was ever better than his grandparents’. This is an undeniable fact, as any Brogdon will tell you.

Lastly, I must mention that John considered himself a great patriot. He cared about the Constitution and found meaning and wisdom in the words of our country’s forefathers. He believed in liberty and freedom and devoted a lot of time learning as much as he could about events both current and historical. He had a great aptitude for remembering names and facts that never ceased to impress, even when you completely disagreed with whatever he was talking about.

In addition to his wife and children, he leaves behind his sisters, Alysia Blakely and Brandy Wyatt, his father John Brogdon Sr, and many nieces and nephews. We will take comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain, and pray he was received in love and light.
