John Joseph Hoey

John Joseph Hoey, Jr, 78, passed away on December 30, 2021 in Anderson, SC. John was born in Cheshire, CT on January 22, 1943 to John and Florence MacAleer Hoey. The Hoeys moved to Pompano Beach, FL when John was in high school. Upon graduation he joined the US Army where he served his country for three years. After his honorable discharge, John became a plumber where he worked with the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 719 and then with the Broward County School District until his retirement in 2005.
During his retired days, John spent his time attending Swamp Rabbit Hockey games, races at the Anderson Motor Speedway, his grandson’s soccer games, and tinkering on his many projects.
John was predeceased by his parents and brother, David. He will be deeply missed by his two daughters, Susan Dejanovic and Kim Geer (David); grandchildren, Danielle Dejanovic and David Geer; long-time friend, Candi Hoey; and his dog, Sadie. He is also survived by sisters, Carol Ann Fontaine and Eileen Nichols (Charles); and numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held at the M.J. “Dolly” Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC on Friday, January 21 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Anderson County PAWS or a charity of your choice.
