John Cornell Lane

October 11, 1947 — July 29, 2022

John Cornell Lane, 74, of Greenville, SC, passed away on July 29, 2022. He was the son of the late John Cornell Lane and Geneva Rogers Lane Branch, born in Dillon, SC, on October 11, 1947. John is survived by his daughter Linda Diane Hall (Bryan); grandchildren: Ashley, Johnny, Britney, Megan, and Amanda; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers: Melvin Branch (Vicky), Tommy Branch; sisters: Polly Webster (Jerry), Alberta McHone (George); and girlfriend of thirteen years Mildred Hughes. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years Judy McDowell Lane; son: John Robert Lane; brother: Wade Lane, and sister Margie Lane. After retirement from the trucking industry, John enjoyed working in his shop restoring old cars and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Also, he enjoyed sitting on the front porch that he built watching the little animals that would come and visit. His favorite time under his porch was when it was raining. He was a devoted family man and worked hard to provide for them. One of his favorite things was visiting with his brothers and sisters in Dillon. Hearing the laughter when they got together was music to your ears. Although he was rough on the exterior he had a teddy bear heart and he will be greatly missed. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, August 11, 2022, at 3 pm.
