Liberty, South Carolina:
Joseph Pettigrew Sanders III at age 80 went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday September 12, 2018 after a period of declining health. Born in Greenville South Carolina he was the son of the Late Joseph Pettigrew Jr. and the Late Daisy Shephard Sanders both of Greenville South Carolina.
Mr. Sanders graduated with honors from Washington College Academy, Limestone Tennessee in 1957.He graduated from Furman University with a degree in Business Finance. He also attended North Greenville University, and received degrees from the University of South Carolina Banking School of the South, Louisiana State University and University of Oklahoma and was also a United States Army reservist.
Mr. Sanders was very active in the community since 1960 having served as President of both the Jaycees of Greenville and the Donaldson Center Lions Club. A lifetime member of the Sam Poe Masonic Lodge #238 AFM, 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Temple, Hejaz Shriner and also serving as Chairman of the Board for Washington College Academy.
Upon his retirement from Bank of America with 50 years of service as Vice President of Branch administration he was the
Co-Owner of American Family Mortgage Services, Sanders Financial Group and Sandwood Property Management.
Mr. Sanders served as President and CEO of the Miss South Carolina Organization from 1960-2010 having received the Hall of Honor and Life Time Achievement awards. Served on the Miss Americas Outstanding Teen Advisory Board from its conception in 2005. He also received the Hall of Honor award the highest award given by the Miss America Organization to its group of volunteers along with the 50 years of Service award.
Mr. Sanders was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Flat Rock Baptist Church in Liberty South Carolina where he served as an Ordained Deacon and on the Pastor Search committee.
He was proceeded in death by both of his parents and his Beloved wife of 54 years June Gail Marchbanks Sanders.
He is survived by a son Joseph Pettigrew Sanders IV “Joey” (Stephanie) of Liberty. 2 sisters Meriam Jeannette Sanders Johnson (JT) and Linda Jane Sanders Muphree both of Liberty 1 Grandson Todor Kiril Pandov (Kim) and 1 Granddaughter Grace of Liberty and 2 Great Grandsons Mason and Jayden of Philadelphia PA. and several loving nieces and nephews.
Along with an extended family of friends and loved ones in the Miss South Carolina and Miss America Organizations.

The memorial service will be held
