Kenneth Allen Gilmore, 82, of Anderson, SC passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Whitinsville, Mass. to the late; Robert E. and Anne G. Gilmore of Anderson. He was an Honor graduate from Winder Barrow High School, in Winder, GA in 1955. He started his college years at Emory in Oxford, then later transferred to Mississippi Southern to finish his undergraduate degree. Later moving to the University of MD, where he completed Graduate School before becoming the Business Manager for the Dept. of Zoology and remained there until he retired after 30 plus years. Upon his retirement in the mid 90's he relocated close to his mother in Anderson and had lived here until his passing.
While living in Anderson, he was an active volunteer at the Calhoun Elementary and North Point Elem. School. He was heavily involved with the Parents Club at the Whitten Center, plus he was a member, and later became Chairman of the Human Rights Committee there. In addition, he was on the Board of the Anderson County Disabilities and Special Needs Commission.
To anyone who knew him, he was a kind, thoughtful, and generous person who would go out of his way to help anyone. But most of all, he was always spending time with his sister, Kathy, who lives at Whitten Center.
His passions were Lake Hartwell, classical music, organ music, continuous learning and his cats.
Surviving siblings are; Wayne Gilmore (Mami), of Japan, Elaine Gilmore, of Anderson, Carol Wentzky (Sam), of Anderson, Linda Stancil (Larry) of Montana, and Kathy Gilmore, of Clinton.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, June 10,2019 at Midway Presbyterian Church, 3238 Midway Road, Anderson, SC with Dr. John McCallum officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Midway Presbyterian Church or The Whitten Center Parents Club in care of: Marlene Wood, 304 Dixon Street, Clinton, SC 29325.
