Kermit Cardell Thompson

December 1, 1927 — June 26, 2020

Kermit Cardell Thompson was born to Paul Ledgster Thompson and Lillian Jane Thompson on December 1, 1927 in, or near, the small village of Arpelar, Oklahoma. He attended grade school in the small 2-room school house near Arpelar and later attended Haywood Highschool in the farming town of Haywood, Oklahoma, graduating in June 1946. Kermit worked for a time in San Francisco, California and joined the Army Air Force on September 26, 1946 and served for almost 27 years retiring as a
Lieutenant Colonel on July 31, 1973. He graduated from the University of Omaha, Omaha, Nebraska in June 1966. He was a member of Phi Alpha Theta and the military society of Pen-and Sword. He later completed a Master's Degree with Pepperdine University, Malibu, California in December 1978.

Kermit married Marilyn Meils on February 28, 1958 in the city of Anchorage, Territory of Alaska. Del M. Thompson and Dana K. Thompson, sons, were born of this marriage. Both sons, and their families, currently live in and around Greenville, South Carolina.

Kermit was a "born again" believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, having asked the Lord into his heart as a teenager in a brush arbor meeting at the Nazarene Church near Arpelar, Oklahoma. Kermit always said how thankful he was for the Lord's forgiveness and that it was only by God's
wonderful grace that he was saved, because he had no righteousness of his own. Kermit and Marilyn are members of Mount Calvary Baptist Church on Cedar Lane Road, Greenville.
