Margaret "Peggy" Barnett

d. August 16, 2019

Margaret “Peggy” Barnett, 90, went to be with the Lord in the early morning of August 16, 2019.

Peggy was the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Ross) Sincock of Flint, Michigan and the wife of Frederick Ellis Barnett, Sr. Peggy received Christ as Savior after watching Dr. Billy Graham on television. During the prayer at the end, she asked the Lord to save her from her sin. Billy Graham encouraged those who listened to attend a good, Bible-preaching church on Sunday. Peggy went to Calvary Baptist Church of Roseville, Michigan which was very close to their home. The pastor of the church came to their home to meet Fred, Peggy’s husband, to share the Gospel with him. Fred prayed to receive Christ right there in their living room. God truly changed Fred and Peggy. They became active serving the Lord and raising their family to know and serve Jesus.
Peggy grew up in rural Flint, Michigan and was the second of five children. When she was growing up, she had the responsibility of feeding the chickens every day. Peggy was a friendly, outgoing young lady. She was a cheerleader for her high school, Grand Blanc High School. She served on her high school yearbook, “The Echo.” She also was a member of the Science Club and the Varsity Club. Her yearbook has the following inscription: “Peg-A pretty girl is like a melody.” She loved to swim as a young lady. When she and Fred were dating, she climbed up and jumped off the high dive. Fred, who never wanted to go off a high dive, felt that he had to be brave after his girlfriend took the high dive!

Peggy was loved by all who met her. She was quick to give a kiss and hug to anyone nearby. She gave her time and love to many. Peggy loved to travel, go on family vacations, sewing, baking, walking and riding her bike when she was able. In fact, she often had teen girls stop by the house on their way home from high school which was nearby. She would counsel, feed snacks to and sew clothes for the teen girls from church.

During the Korean war, she worked as a “Rosy the Riveter” at a local Detroit airport. She went to college for secretarial training and expertly learned shorthand. For a time, she worked as a secretary for Fred’s business, Barnett’s Glass. Her most rewarding “job” was being the best Grandma around!
Peggy was very involved in her church, Calvary Baptist in Roseville, Michigan. She served as a deaconess and also was head of VBS a few years. She had an open-door policy with the teens of the church and often had missionaries in the home for meals and fellowship. She served many meals to family and friends over the years. She was known for her delicious pies and popcorn balls.
Margaret “Peggy” is survived by her eldest son, Frederick E. (Debra) Barnett, Jr. ; daughter-in-law, Marjie Barnett; daughter, Shelley (Bob) Johansen; daughter, Elizabeth (Sam) Berchiolly; sister, Pearl Hanson; eighteen grandchildren: Chad (Ruth Ann) Barnett, Todd (Melissa) Barnett, Brad (Becky) Barnett, Kelsey Barnett, Michael Louis (Lauren) Kollmorgen, Brent (Sarah) Barnett, Alison (Joe) Hoff, Hilary (Stephen) Korb, Brian (Charis) Johansen, Kevin (Hailey) Johansen, Emily (Tim) Brokke, Christian Johansen, Michael Schaefer, Jr., Erick (Rebecca) Schaefer, Tyler Schaefer, Nick Berchiolly, Brian Berchiolly, Sam Berchiolly Jr., Krystal Millar and thirty-two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Ruth Webb and Doris Bier, brother, William Sincock; son, Rodney Barnett and granddaughter Rochelle Lucy Schaefer.
