Martin Britton

Martin Britton, of Greenville, South Carolina passed away on December 5, 2017. He suffered a stroke on November 7, 2017 and remained in the hospital for 28 days before he passed away.

Martin lived a life of love and laughter. He fiercely loved his wife, Jade just as much on the day he died as throughout their 17-year marriage. He wanted everyone to know that she was his girl! He was a dedicated and excellent father to their 15-year-old son, Gabriel.

Martin was born on April 2, 1976 in Kingston, Jamaica to George and Vilma Britton. He moved to America, first to St. Petersburg, FL when he was 9 and became a US citizen in 2000. He easily made friends and loved all animals. He was an artist, graphic designer, web designer and a talented musician. He had a tremendous vocabulary and loved talking about politics. He loved to garden wearing his signature overalls and straw hat. He and his family moved to Greenville from Charlotte in 2015 after purchasing their first home, a home which he loved and where he wanted to live forever.

He went to Flagler College in St. Augustine, FL and received his Bachelors of Arts in Graphic Design. He worked for First Class Values of Charlotte, NC with and for his friend, David Henderson. He was a member of The Upstate Pathfinders Walking Club and served as their Vice President. He was their Web Master and created all the club logos and artwork of which he earned several national awards.

Martin is survived by his wife, Jade and their son, Gabriel of Greenville, SC. Also by his parents George and Vilma Britton from St. Petersburg Florida. His brother George; sister-in-law, Tracey; five nieces Rachael, Damaris, Calah, Dara and Ezri and his nephew Benjamin. His brother Alexander and his wife Paula from Atlanta, Georgia and their children, Erin, Aleah, and Matthew. He is survived by his in-laws Robert and Lyla McDaniel of Greenville, SC and Christopher Heinz of St. Petersburg, FL. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as many close and loving friends. Lastly, he is survived by his loving companions, his dogs, Biscuit and Buster Brown and his Amazon Parrot, Wilber.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Cremation Society of South Carolina and Westville Funerals. Visitation and viewing will be held at 6010 White Horse Road from 6:00pm – 8:00pm on Saturday, December 9, 2017. All are welcome. A memorial reception will be held in his honor at the McDaniel’s home on Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 1:00pm – 5:00pm at 525 Crane Avenue, Greenville, SC. All are welcome.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church at 311 Gower Street Greenville, SC 29611, presided over by Fr. Patrick Tully at 6:00pm on Monday, December 11, 2017. A simple reception of coffee and pastries will be held at the parish hall following the Mass. All are welcome.
