Mellie Joyce Merritt

November 18, 1939 — September 21, 2021

Joyce Merritt, 81, passed away from complications of the COVID 19 virus on September 21 at St. Francis Hospital. She was the daughter of the late John Ligon and Evelyn Turner Merritt and was of the Baptist Faith.

She will be dearly missed by her son, Darren Wells (Ronda), Grandchildren Christopher Wells (Allison), Ashley Timms (Kyle), and Joshua Wells, all of Greenville, Great-grandchildren Nora and Noah Wells, and Levi Timms. A special niece, Brandi Merritt, that she loved like a daughter, and Brandi’s children Marissa and her daughter Layla, Cameron, and Catalina. She also had two brothers, Charles Merritt and Billy Bingham, and special friends Yolanda and Eric Larson.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her fiancé Hugh Zimmerman.

Joyce was a 1958 graduate of Parker High School and previously worked at Judson Mill and retired from Engineered Custom Plastics in Easley. She loved spending time with family, listening to Kenny Rogers and Elvis. She was very outgoing and had a heart of gold. She was always willing to help someone whenever the need arose. She will forever be in the hearts and memory of those who loved her.

A celebration of her life will be held graveside on Friday, September 24 at Graceland West Cemetery at 2:00pm. Due to the COVID 19 virus, please consider wearing a mask at the graveside.
