Merrill Oscar Fisher

February 16, 1927 — December 6, 2020

Merrill Oscar Fisher, 93, of Easley, SC, passed away on December 6, 2020 at the McCall Hospice House of Greenville. He was a beloved son of the late Alford and Mamie Fisher, born on February 16, 1927 in Pulaski, WI.
Merrill leaves behind his cherished wife of almost 40 years, Nada Joye Fisher; daughters, Penny Puckett, and Patricia Ellen Penson (Richard); a son, Michael Clayton Puckett (Kyle); three grandchildren, Casey English (Mitchell), Abby Puckett, and Madison Leigh Penson; two great-grandchildren, Grady and Maisen English; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and two sisters.
Merrill had an expansive career in the cemetery business in Ohio and Pennsylvania for 48 years, including being the owner and operator of Green Haven Memorial Gardens and Pet Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield, OH. During his career Merrill often consulted in the development of other cemetery properties between Ohio and Pennsylvania and beyond. Merrill was a member of the Keystone State Association of Cemeteries, having served as Program Chairman in 1972, Vice President from 1971-1973; and finally he became the President when a gavel was presented to him from 1973-1975. In 1976 he was presented with the Certificate of Honor for being a Quarter Century Member with the National Association of Cemeteries; and in 1978 he was presented with a distinguished service as member of the Board of Directors for the National Association of Cemeteries. He was also the member of the Ohio Association of Cemeteries and the past president and a director of the Cemetery Association of Pennsylvania. In 1987 he sold his business and moved to South Carolina while still consulting and managing a few cemeteries. Merrill had a storied career of helping others during their time of need. He will be remembered as a pioneer and a visionary in cemetery sales and development. When Merrill retired, he decided to sell real estate where once again he won a significant number of sales awards. Merrill was presented with awards and accreditations in this industry working with The Prudential Carolinas Realty, his most notable accomplishments in real estate were being presented with the Greenville Association of Realtors Million Dollar Club for 1994, Pickens County Board of Realtors Million Dollar Club for 1994, and the Prudential Carolinas Realty Pleasantburg Office on becoming a Million Dollar Producer for 1994-1995. With all the career accomplishments Merrill had, the most important thing to him was his wife Joye and their 40 years of marriage. They raised their children, were active grandparents to the grandchildren, and loved their extended family and friends. Merrill enjoyed taking vacations, teaching Sunday School and sharing his life experiences with those he felt would benefit. He epitomized the ideal family man: he was kind and truly adored his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately called him Papa Merrill. He will be remembered as a man who had a smile that could light a room up and spirit that could warm any heart.
