Penny Klein

March 7, 1927 — September 13, 2021

Penny Klein was born on March 7, 1927, in Marietta, Ohio. On that same day, she gained a twin sister, Ginger who remained her soul mate for life. Penny was raised in the Akron, Ohio area and had a challenging childhood that included life in the Summit County Children’s Home and a brief adoption as a toddler. Despite all of this, she used her bright, strong spirit to carry her forth into the world. She met and married Fredrick (Fritz) Klein in 1948 and they enjoyed life together for the next 70 years.
The first half of their life was spent in Akron where they raised their four children. In 1987, they moved to Fair Play, SC where they lived on Lake Hartwell together until 2018. During those years Penny and Fritz found great joy in opening their home to family and friends. They loved spending time with family, traveling with The Happy Hearts Club, and were faithful members of the Eternal Shepherd Lutheran Church in Seneca, SC. Penny loved using her many talents to bless others through sewing, handwork, and the gift of written correspondence. She possessed a sweet spirit that always encouraged others to strive to be their best and was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all those who knew her. Her sweet smile and disposition could light up a room. Penny’s final years were spent in Douglasville, GA with her daughter.
Penny is preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick (Fritz) Klein, daughter-in-law, Linda Klein, and sister, Ginger Evans.
Penny is survived by her four children Bruce Klein of Matthews, NC, Chuck (Sarah) Klein of Concord, NC, Dane (Becky) Klein of Rock Hill, SC, and Valerie (Jimmy) Gordon of Douglasville, GA; Grandchildren Caroline Klein, Joshua (Sasha) Klein, Anne (Philip) Roe, Ben (Melissa) Klein, Fred (Kelly) Klein, Ethan (Madison) Gordon and Aaron (Shannon) Gordon. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Kazimir, Delia and Desmond Klein, Grace, Ryan, Charlie, and Clay Klein, Henry and Eli Roe, Miles Klein, and sisters Ruth Turkett and Karen Hurd.
A memorial service will be held on October 16th, 11am at the Eternal Shepherd Lutheran Church in Seneca, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Penny with donations to her church.
