Ray Hampton Jackson

May 15, 1938 — January 25, 2020

Ray Hampton Jackson, 81, peacefully passed into Heaven on Saturday, January 25th at NHC Clinton with his wife and youngest son by his side.
Ray is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Jackson (née Holdridge), children Brian (Angela) Jackson, Keith (Kitty) Jackson, Erayna (Rob) Lin, Stuart (Lynnea) Jackson, 10 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore and Dora (née Wright) Jackson, and his siblings Christine Gregory, Nettie Lou Rollins, Betty Powell, Edward Jackson, and Jean Harris.
Ray was born May 15, 1938 in Gaffney, SC. After attending high school, Ray served in the Air Force for 8 years. He began as a Radio Maintenance Technician and developed his skills in order to advance to Computer Technician. He was honorably discharged in 1964. Ray and Helen met in New York, during his enlistment, and married on June 26, 1965. They then welcomed four children over the next 14 years, and worked tirelessly to provide their family with a home filled with faith and love. In 2007 Ray retired from Volt Electric Incorporated. Upon retiring, he and Helen moved back to Joanna, SC, to be close to his remaining siblings.
Ray’s Christian faith permeated every aspect of his life. He gave his time and talents to his church, serving when and where he was called, acting at times as Head Deacon, Sunday School teacher and a church bus driver. Jesus’ light shined through Ray for the world to see, in his patient and gentle way, and in his desire to help everyone around him. Most recently, he was in fellowship with First Baptist Church of Joanna.
Second only to God, Ray’s family was his joy. He delighted in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially. Ray was always interested in their goings-on and enjoyed sharing their adventures on Facebook. His legacy of love will live on in them.
Ray will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but we celebrate his entrance into the eternal presence of the Lord.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service at 10:30am on Saturday, February 15th, at Joanna First Baptist Church. Visitation with the family begins at 9:45am, and there will be a luncheon in the Reception Hall immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to World Vision, a charity close to Ray's own heart, or to Joanna First Baptist Church.
