Russel Edward Brahmer, 54, of 110 Alice St, died Monday May 27 at his home after a valiant hard fought battle against cancer. His quiet strength, uplifting attitude and gentle nature during his illness was noticed by all and a source of inspiration to many.
Born in Bethesda, Maryland, hes was the son of the late Lt. Col.Russel John Brahmer USAF Ret. and the late Anne Pickup Brahmer. Russ graduated form Franklin High School in Franklin NC, then went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Management from Western Carolina University.
Russ was a former paramedic with GCEMS, as well as a medical instructor with many organizations. Many people commented on his teaching and mentoring skills and credited him with their own success. Russ also loved music and had a great passion and skill for wood-working, creating many beautiful works of art. He shared this passion with many, and mentored others in this area.
Most important to Russ was family. He was the soulmate of Susan Lynne Rose Brahmer, his wife of 20 years. He was a loving father to his daughter, Katlyn Lee Brahmer (Ed Woody) of Whittier, North Carolina and son, Bryan Russel Brahmer, of Fountain Inn. He was the pack leader of his two fur babies, Poppy and Jack. In addition to his wife and children Russ is survived by a younger brother, Robert Brahmer of Arizona, older brothers Mark Brahmer (Kathy) of Colorado and Kenneth Brahmer of North Carolina. He was predeceased by an older brother, Ron Brahmer (Ginny). Also important to him was his Kentucky family, mother-in-law Betty Rose and sisters-in-law Betty Gail Berish (Fred) and Kathleen Rose, as well as many nieces and nephews scattered across the country.
At his request there will be no funeral services. A celebration of life will be held Thursday, June 6 at the Irish Pub on Laurens Rd. All are welcome to lift a toast to a great man!
