Samuel Alan Kelly

July 7, 1956 — April 23, 2022

Samuel Alan Kelly, 65, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his Walhalla home on April 23, 2022. He was surrounded by his family.
Alan was a native of Walhalla and a life-long resident of Oconee County. He was the son of the late Pearl Frances Kelly (nee Green) who raised him in rural Walhalla together with her partner the late JB Swafford.
In his healthier years he was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hiking, fishing, shooting, camping, and rock-hounding. He had a keen interest in history with a particular focus on military history. In his later years he came to enjoy the simple things in life like watching hummingbirds from his seat on the porch. He was fond of British murder mysteries and cooking shows that demonstrate traditional ways of life.
His life will forever be cherished by his family. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cathey (nee Ward), and their daughters Athena and Brandy both of Walhalla; his brothers Richard Kelley (Brenda) of Iva, South Carolina; Terry Kelley (Becky) of Westminster, South Carolina; his grandsons Jacob and Matthew Tucker of Seneca, South Carolina; and many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews in South Carolina and California.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, James Kelly (Leslie) of Escondido, California, nephews Clifton Kelly of Houston, Texas and Jacob Marshall of Oceanside, California.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
