Alfred Paul "Al" Engelmann, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2025, in Greenville, South Carolina. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Al's journey through life was marked by his dedication to his family, his passion for boating and golf, and his commitment to serving his community.
Al was a proud graduate of Stuyvesant High School, where he first began to exhibit the intellectual curiosity that would define his professional and personal life. He furthered his education at the City College of New York, earning a Bachelor of Science degree that laid the foundation for his future endeavors.
His professional life was characterized by leadership and service, most notably through his role as the Greenville Commander of the US Power Squadron. Al's guidance and expertise were invaluable to the organization, and his legacy there remains a testament to his commitment to excellence and community involvement.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Al's interests in boating and golf brought him great joy and provided a source of relaxation and camaraderie. He navigated the waters with the same precision and care that he approached every aspect of his life, and his presence on the golf course was always welcomed by his friends and fellow enthusiasts.
Al was a family man at heart, and nothing brought him more happiness than the time spent with his loved ones. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Brykman and her husband Kurt, Katherine Engelmann, and Margaret Searson (Brad). His legacy continues through his granddaughters, Kelsey Brykman, Ashley Brykman, Emma Searson, and great grandson Casey Brykman-Li., who will carry forward the values and lessons he imparted.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edith Engelmann, and his cherished companion, Joan Austin, Al's memory will be held in the hearts of those who knew him best. Al's impact on the world was as profound as it was understated, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
