Alma Mahaffey

Alma Mahaffey, lovingly known as “Nanny,” passed away on July 20, 2026, in Easley, South Carolina, at the age of 98.

She was born on June 26, 1928, in Greenville, South Carolina, and lived a long life marked by faith, devotion to family, and a warm, steady presence that touched those around her. Alma was the daughter of the late Norman Oscar Keeler and Sally Barton Keeler.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Bruce Mahaffey; her son, Michael Mahaffey; her son-in-law, JB Clark Jr.; her brothers, James Keeler, Alva Keeler, and William “Bill” Carl Keeler; and her sisters, Christine McCarter, Doris Taylor, and Edna Cook.

Alma worked at the Monaghan Plant, where she was known for her dependable nature and strong work ethic. She approached her work with quiet determination and took pride in doing her part well. Her life reflected the character of someone who understood the value of diligence and responsibility, and she carried those qualities into every area of her life.

Faith was an important part of Alma’s life, and she was a devoted member of Life Church in Easley. Her relationship with the Lord was a source of strength and comfort, and she lived with a faith-filled spirit that encouraged others. She was the kind of person whose presence could light up a room.

Alma was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Mahaffey Clark; her grandson, Bryan Keith Clark (Kate); her granddaughters, Karen Clark Maw and Kayla Clark Waldrep (Brandon); her great-granddaughters, Olivia Joyce Clark and Jordyn McKenzie Maw; her great-grandsons, Charlie Bissonnette, Jack Bissonnette, and Samuel Karsten Maw; and her great-great-granddaughters, Ava Stevens and Finleigh Stevens. Her family was one of her greatest joys, and she treasured the love and connection she shared with each generation.

Those who knew Alma will remember her as funny, faith-filled, and creative. She had a way of bringing humor into everyday moments. She found happiness working in her yard, sitting outside, and enjoying the simple beauty of the world around her. She was also an avid wrestling fan and enjoyed working crossword puzzles.

Alma’s life was a testament to strength, faith, and love. She will be remembered for her caring heart, her sense of humor, and the steady example she set for her family. Her legacy lives on in the lives of those who loved her and in the memories they will carry forward with gratitude and affection.

The family and friends who mourn her passing also give thanks for a life well lived. Alma Mahaffey leaves behind a legacy of devotion, resilience, and love that will never be forgotten.
