Alvin Dan Clark, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at his home on May 14, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on February 4, 1939, in Spartanburg, SC, Dan was a man known for his love of family and music, his resourcefulness, and a laughter that could fill any room.
Dan was predeceased by his loving and devoted parents, Bertha Sara Pruitt and Charlie Ezell Clark. He is survived by his brother, Kenneth Clark, and his wife, Susan; his niece, Julie Jeffcoat and her husband, Lee; and nephews, Dusty Clark and B.J. Clark. He is also survived by his adoring children: daughter Kimberly Connor and her husband, Rev. Jeff Connor; son Jonathan Clark; son Stephen Clark and Kelly Pruitt; and son Jason Clark, Ph.D., and his wife, Lauren. Dan leaves a treasured legacy of six grandchildren—Jenna, Sean, Alexis, Isaiah, Asher, and Luke—as well as ten great-grandchildren.
Throughout his life, Dan was known for his exceptional skill in tuning and refinishing pianos—a craft he honed with passion and precision. His work not only filled homes with music but also preserved the legacy of sacred music in many churches over the years. A talented musician himself, Dan played multiple instruments and was a music teacher. He also served as a music director in churches during his early life. He also had a deep love for motorcycles and fast cars. He enjoyed the thrill, the freedom, and the style they represented. Whether he was reminiscing about his favorite rides or enjoying a drive, he always had a spark in his eye when it came to anything with wheels and speed.
Dan’s sense of humor was legendary, and his ability to tell a joke or share one of his many life stories ensured that laughter was never far away. He loved gathering with family and friends. Those who had the pleasure of knowing Dan will remember him as a true handyman—someone whose creativity and ingenuity were his trademarks. His spirit and legacy will live on through the stories shared by his family and the beautiful music that continues to resonate from the pianos he so lovingly cared for. Dan’s life was a melody composed of joy, laughter, and an unwavering zest for life that will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
One of Dan’s favorite Scriptures was John 3:16—“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” That verse captured the faith he lived by and the hope he held onto.
