Benson Cameron Boyd (Ben), 67, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, surrounded by his children.

Ben was truly a force to be reckoned with. His social personality, his ability to make friends with strangers, and his eccentric sense of humor made a lasting impact on anyone who got to know him. He truly was a special and one-of-a-kind person.

Ben, son of the late Phillip and Sarah Boyd, was born in Twentynine Palms, California. He grew up with his four siblings in Geneva, Illinois, and Charlotte, North Carolina. He graduated from Myers Park High School. After graduation, Ben enlisted in the United States Navy. During his years of service, he traveled all over the Asia Pacific on the historic USS Midway, a United States Navy aircraft carrier. He worked as an aviation mechanic. He especially loved his time in the Philippines and Japan, including time stationed at the Yokosuka base. Ben was extremely proud of his service in the Navy and often spoke fondly of his fellow sailors who served alongside him. After leaving the Navy, he became a skilled Field Engineer for many construction sites across the United States, working on commercial complexes and nuclear power plants. Ben was a lover of music. His walls were covered in music posters, and you could find him blasting Fleetwood Mac or Rush on any given day. He also loved golf and the Carolina Panthers. One of Ben’s greatest passions was his love for woodworking. Even though he is no longer with us, his collection of handmade Windsor chairs, dressers, and tables will live on in our homes, where his family will cherish them for years to come.

Above all else, Ben loved being a father. He worked tirelessly to make sure his children had everything they needed. Hardly a day passed that he didn’t call to check in to make sure they were doing well. Ben may have been a wild, carefree spirit, but his generosity and deep love for his family were undeniable and will be remembered always.

Surviving are his children, Mary Kathryn Boyd (Drake), Mckenzie Boyd (Logan), Cliff Overstreet (Tasha), and Morgan Williams (Maurice); brothers, John Boyd and Edward Boyd (Cindy); sisters, Susie Mayer (Walter) and Cathy Scheer (Pete); grandchildren, Maurice Williams, Tobias Williams, Ezra Williams, and Penelope Overstreet, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Greenville Woodworking Guild. Ben loved his time as a member there, and they work closely with charities to share their timeless art.
