Betsy Guffey, a beloved homemaker and cherished member of her community, passed away on March 5, 2026, in Pickens, South Carolina, at the age of 95. Born on February 27, 1931, in Paterson, New Jersey, Betsy lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and deep faith.

Betsy was known for her engaging personality, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a warm smile. Her friendly nature endeared her to all who knew her, while her interesting stories and experiences captivated friends and family alike. She found joy in nurturing her loved ones, often hosting gatherings in her home that were filled with laughter, love, and heartfelt moments.

Throughout her life, Betsy dedicated herself to her passions, which included fervent Bible study, participation in her church, and her ministry to international students. She particularly cherished the times spent traveling with her husband, Hal W. Guffey, for church events. Together, they created a rich tapestry of memories centered around their shared faith and commitment to serving others.

Betsy is survived by her loving daughter, Sondra Guffey Hufstedler and her child Garrett Hufstedler, She is also survived by her son, Alan Guffey and his wife, Cynthia, along with their children; Callie, Hannah, and Elyse. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal W. Guffey, who was her partner and confidant throughout their many years together, as well as her parents, Geraldine Ross and Alexander Ross, who provided the foundation of love and support that shaped her life.

As we remember Betsy Guffey, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was—a kind and faith-filled individual who touched the lives of many with her generous spirit. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

There will be a service for Betsy at the Foothills Retirement Community Center Chapel announced at a later date. 

Cremation Society of South Carolina Westville Funerals is honored to serve the family of Betsy Guffey.
