Bobby W Matthews

Bobby W. Matthews "Possum" of Spartanburg, SC, passed away Sunday, October 4th, 2026, at SRMC. He was born August 15th, 1951, in Florence, SC, to Bobby and Betty Matthews. 

Possum will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends. He was a dedicated worker for almost 48 years at Universal Packaging until he fell ill in 2021. He will also be remembered for the way he loved his sports, especially his Clemson Tigers and the Atlanta Braves (really all sports). 

Bobby is proceeded in death by his father, Bobby Matthews, and mother Betty Mathews, and grandparents. 

Possum is survived by his wife Darlene Matthews, sister Vickie Sheppard, 3 children Cayce (Fred), Mistie, and Justin (Margaret). 11 grandchildren Brianna, Kendra, Day Day, Donoven, Kalissa (Nick), Kallie, Zyanna, Navaeh, Dakota , Bryson, and Grayson. 3 great grandchildren Zaiyah, Addarren, and Khalid. 

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 10thm 2026, at 2:00pm, at Church Builders, 127 Fremont Avenue, Spartanburg, SC. The services will be conducted by Evangelist Danny Kiefel. Our family is grateful for the kindness and support shown during this time.
