He was a respected Deli Manager for Lowes Foods, where he was known for his commitment to providing exceptional customer service. His colleagues appreciated his sense of humor and his willingness to go above and beyond to ensure the team's success. Family was at the heart of Bret's life. He was a devoted father to his children, Ryan, Dylan, Cassidy, and Alexa Smith. His love for them was evident in every aspect of his life, and he often said that his greatest achievement was raising his children. The joy they brought him was immeasurable and his legacy will continue through them. Bret is survived by his loving mother, Eva Smith, brothers, Ray and Kirk Smith, and sisters, Suzie Collins, and Cindy Smith. Bret was predeceased by his father Charles Smith and brother Bobby Smith.

Bret was a sports enthusiast. A dedicated fan of football and baseball, he followed the Miami Dolphins, Philadelphia Phillies, and Notre Dame religiously. His love for sports was infectious, creating a bond with fellow fans and bringing a unique energy to every game he watched. His spirit was most alive when he was cheering on his favorite teams. Bret had a heart full of kindness and a spirit that lit up any room he entered. His thoughtful actions, warm smile, and genuine love for others made him a joy to be around. There will be a private family gathering on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at the Funeral Home from 2:00pm to 3:00pm with a Funeral to be held a Finegan Funeral Home, located in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. Service Times will announced when finalized.
