Carol Yvonne Hogeboom, a devoted banker, accomplished accounting manager, and spirited community pillar; passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on May 19, 2026, at the age of 53.
Born on November 13, 1972, at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina, Carol was the daughter of the late James Stevenson. From her early years, she developed a life marked by dedication, intelligence, and an analytical mind. Those who knew Carol best will remember her as a vibrant, independent, and fiercely loving woman whose strength was matched only by her warmth.
Carol’s professional life spanned over two decades, during which she established herself as a highly respected leader in the local banking and business community. Always striving for excellence, she graduated from America’s Banker School in 2016. Throughout her distinguished tenure at The Palmetto Bank / United Community Bank, she held many roles, earning a reputation for sharp technical expertise, integrity, and mentorship.
Later in her career, Carol transitioned to become an accomplished accounting manager for Martin Bagwell LLC, where she served until her retirement in 2025. Her exceptional analytical skills, work ethic, and unwavering commitment earned her the deep admiration of colleagues and clients alike.
Beyond her professional achievements, Carol believed deeply in giving back to the community she loved. Before her retirement, she was a proud and active champion for Relay for Life. She also contributed her time and leadership to the Lion’s Club and the Travelers Rest Chamber of Commerce, leaving an indelible mark on the Upstate through her generous spirit.
When she wasn't serving others, Carol found great joy in nature and simple pleasures. An avid gardener and lover of the outdoors, she spent countless happy hours tending to her plants and cherishing the company of her beloved chickens. She was also an insatiable reader, always eager to explore new ideas, learn, and broaden her horizons.
Above all, Carol’s heart belonged to her family. They were the center of her universe, and her happiest moments were those spent surrounded by the people she loved.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Hogeboom; her loving children, Emily Cantrell (Michael) and Will Kramer (Daniel); her stepchildren, Nathaniel Hogeboom and Bailee Hogeboom; and her cherished grandchildren, Owen Cantrell, Maximus and Cyrus Malaab, and Jacob and Isabella Hogeboom. Carol also leaves behind her twin sister, Laura Harbin; her niece, Lily Gutierrez; and her faithful canine companions, Sophie, Rudy, and Little Dog, who brought her endless joy.
Carol was preceded in death by her beloved father, James Stevenson; her grandparents, Arthur and Jessie Owens, and Henry and Bobbie Stevenson; and her stepson, Jeremy Hogeboom.
Carol will be remembered as a spirited, intelligent, and fiercely dedicated woman whose legacy lives on in her family, her career, and the community she helped shape. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering strength remain a guiding light in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
