Charles Vincen Henderson of 8 Whitman Drive, Taylors, South Carolina was 91 years old when he went to meet his Lord and Master on November 3, 2025 after a year of declining health. He was born on December 2, 1933 in rural Dayton, Tennessee.
He was a great football player at Spring City High School, winning the Tennessee Valley Conference Jaycee Bowl in 1950. He enjoyed a full scholarship to Notre Dame. Much later in life, 1968, he coached a little league football team, the Wade Hampton Cherokees, to an undefeated season.
He worked for the Department of Energy at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. His work as a manager with Orkin Exterminating Company guided him to live in Spring City, Knoxville, and Memphis, TN, Rock Hill, and Taylors, SC. In 1971 he found his forte when he opened a furniture store. Initially he operated as the Meyers Arnold furniture department in McAlister Square, Greenville, SC. Five years later he moved to a storefront on North Pleasant burg Drive. He continued there as Henderson Furniture and Interiors until his retirement in 2000. He was rightly proud of his retail business and made several lifelong friendships there. Each of his four sons worked for some period in the store.
In his limited free time, he enjoyed hunting whitetail deer and wild turkey, and camping with friends and family. He dearly loved cheering on the Greenville Braves. When the team moved to Pearl, Mississippi he missed his Braves friends and families. He seldom missed a televised Atlanta Braves game. The advent of Covid 19, resulting in shutdowns and isolation took a great toll on him. He developed a habit of watching televised worship services for hours on Sunday mornings. As soon as people began to gather again, he renewed his commitment to the Lord in baptism at Brushy Creek Baptist Church, Taylors, South Carolina.
He is survived by his brother, Paul Henderson (Delora), his four sons, Charlie Henderson (Joan), Darrell Henderson (Shauna), David Henderson (Elizabeth), and John Henderson (Melissa), nine grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents Lillard Robinson Henderson and Alice Henderson West, his sister Libby Henderson Majors, and his brother, J.R. Henderson.
A celebration of his life will be held at 1:45 PM on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at Inspire Church, 8745 White Horse Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29617. Visitation will precede the service from 12:30 to 1:30.
