With saddened hearts we share the passing of Cheri Jacqueline Nowend. Cheri was the cherished daughter of Dorothy and Bernard Linton, and beloved sister of Michael Linton. She was the devoted wife of Neal Edward Nowend for 54 years, a loving mother to her daughter Keri and son Mathew, and a proud grandmother to Kaitlyn. She is also survived by her cousin Wendy and her best friend Martin, who held a special place in her life.
Cheri passed peacefully on September 13, 2025, at the age of 78, surrounded by her children in her home.
Born on September 6, 1947, in Fairmont, West Virginia, Cheri moved with her family as a young girl and eventually made her home in Michigan. From an early age, she carried within her a strong sense of identity rooted in her Jewish faith and heritage. Her Judaism was not only a source of strength but also a guiding light throughout her life. She drew deeply on her traditions, values, and prayers, living each day with compassion, gratitude, and an unwavering belief in family and community.
As a wife, Cheri was devoted and steadfast, sharing more than five decades of love and partnership with Neal. As a mother and grandmother, her greatest joy was in nurturing her children and granddaughter with unconditional love. She instilled in them not only warmth and kindness but also a respect for faith, resilience, and the importance of carrying forward family traditions.
Cheri’s life was marked by her gentle spirit, her wisdom, and her ability to bring comfort and light to those around her. She lived her values fully—through generosity, devotion to loved ones, and the way she honored her faith. Her memory will continue to be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Cheri’s memory to the Detroit Dog Rescue, a cause close to her heart. Donations may be made online at https://detroitdogrescue.com/donate/
