Christina Funches Porter

February 3, 1968 — October 13, 2023

Christina Funches Porter, fondly known as Chrissy, was born on the 3rd of February, 1968 in the bustling borough of Brooklyn, New York, and passed away in the warmth of her home on the 13th of October, 2023. She was a loving, generous, and creative soul, whose life was a testament to the power of love, family, and resilience.

In the winter of her youth, Chrissy attended Queens Vocational, Queens, NY, graduating in the class of 1986. Her life was a tapestry of varied pursuits and passions. She was a cosmetologist for 20 years, lending her creative flair to the world of beauty. She also served as an Administrative Assistant for 20 years at Bellevue Hospital in NY, NY, where her generous spirit was felt by all. In 1995, she furthered her dedication to helping others by becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant.

In the autumn of her life, on Friday, October 12, 2001, she met the love of her life on the F Train in New York City. Their love story was one for the ages, filled with laughter, shared dreams, and an enduring bond that remained unbroken till her last breath. As the poet Lord Byron wrote, "There is no instinct like that of the heart", a sentiment that Chrissy lived by every day.

Her family was the centerpiece of her existence. Her devoted husband, Michael Anthony Porter, her beloved children, Trevor Broomfield, Channel Broomfield, Melanie Funches, Dorian Harbison, and Keonna Simmons, and her treasured grandchildren, Jaylin Broomfield, Joshua Pabon, Jonathan Pabon, Sage Thompson, and Jailani Pabon were the stars that lit up her universe. She was the loving daughter of John Ferrell, Sr. and the late Gloria Robinson-Ferrell, and a cherished sister to Lorenzo Funches and Arnold Coleman. Her niece, Tajuana Funches, and nephew, Kwame Funches, held a special place in her heart.

Chrissy had a penchant for the arts, with interests ranging from cooking and baking to crocheting and painting. She was a music aficionado, with a taste spanning all genres, and a self-confessed seafood lover. She loved looking fabulous, spending time with her family, and lavishing love on her children and grandchildren. Thrifting, taking photos, watching cooking shows, entertaining, and indulging in her favorite wrestling shows, particularly those featuring Roman Reigns, added color and vibrancy to her life.

She passed away at home, surrounded by her loved ones, with a picture of her beloved granddaughter Sage in her hands. Her love for Sage was like a beacon, a testament to the extraordinary bond they shared.

In the words of William Shakespeare, "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players; they have their exits and their entrances". Chrissy played her part with grace, courage, and an unwavering zest for life, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and fortitude.

May her soul find eternal peace and her memory continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. As the poet Emily Dickinson wrote, "Unable are the loved to die. For love is immortality". In our hearts, Chrissy will live on, forever cherished, forever
