Edward Charles Colton Brown, known affectionately as Colton to his friends and family, passed away on July 21, 2025, at the age of 24. Born on August 24, 2000, in Greenville, South Carolina, Colton was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew him. His untimely departure in Pickens, South Carolina, has left a void that cannot be filled.
Colton attended Travelers Rest High School, where he was known for his infectious smile and generous spirit. After high school, he dedicated his professional life to the culinary arts as a line cook in various restaurants across Greenville and Pickens. His love for food was only surpassed by his commitment to his community, as he also served in the Pickens County maintenance department, ensuring that the spaces around him were well-kept and welcoming.
A man of the outdoors, Colton found solace and joy in nature. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, activities that allowed him to embrace the beauty of the world around him. His hands were often found in the soil of his own garden, where he cultivated a variety of vegetables that were not only a source of sustenance but also a point of pride. Colton's love for the land extended to working on his Papa's farm, a place where he felt connected to both his heritage and the earth.
Family was the cornerstone of Colton's life. He was a proud father to his daughter, Ellie, who was the light of his life, which he often referred to her as the best of himself. His bond with his late father, Edward Brown, was one of deep respect and mutual admiration, and they remained close until his father's passing. Colton is survived by his loving sister, Victoria Lauger, who is married to Nate; his two nephews, Landon Thompson, and Knox Lauger: his caring grandmother, Pam Davis; his doting grandfather, Bobby Garrett, and his wife, Anna. He was preceded in death by his mother, Natalie Garrett, and his grandfather, Bill Davis, and his grandmother Rosa Brown.
Those who knew Colton will remember him as a loving and selfless individual. His adventurous spirit led him to seize every opportunity for joy and excitement. He was the kind of person who never left a conversation without expressing his love, a testament to the depth of his caring nature.
Colton's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the pursuit of happiness. He taught us to cherish the simple moments, to hold our loved ones close, and to end each day with an "I love you." His memory will be treasured and kept alive in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Colton's passing is not just a loss to his family but to the entire community that he served and loved so dearly. His spirit, however, will continue to inspire us all for generations to come.
The family is at the home of Nate and Victoria Lauger.
