Dr. David W. Abbott, 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 21, 2026, in South Carolina, beside his beloved wife of 66 years, Margaret (Peggy) Blair Abbott.

Born on December 15, 1936, David was the son of the late Paul and Dorothy W. Abbott of Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

Dr. Abbott dedicated much of his professional life to higher education, serving as a member of the founding faculty of the University of Central Florida, where he earned the distinguished title of Professor Emeritus. Following his retirement, David and Peggy made their home among the beautiful hills of South Carolina.

Affectionately known as "Pop" to his family, Dave leaves behind his devoted wife, Peggy, and three sons, Jeff Abbott, Ben Abbott, and James Abbott. He was preceded in death by his beloved youngest son, Todd Abbott, who passed away in January 2020.

David's life was marked by his devotion to providing for his family, his commitment to education, and the many years he shared with his beloved Peggy.

After a lifetime together, it seems especially fitting that his final moments were spent peacefully beside the woman he loved.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and all who knew him.
