Debbie Walker, a beacon of joy and warmth in the Greenville community, passed away on June 10, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on January 4, 1959, in Greenville, South Carolina, Debbie's infectious laughter and generous spirit were a gift to all who knew her. She remained a lifelong resident of Greenville, where she cultivated a life rich in love, friendship, and service.
Debbie was the beloved wife of William Walker, a cherished mother to Thurshia Jackson, and an adored grandmother to Dai’Jahnique (Daila), Tedric (Teddy), and Jalen (Bud). She was a sister to four brothers and three sisters, who will miss her deeply. Debbie was preceded in death by her mother, Jessie Mae Dillard, who instilled in her the values of kindness and community that she carried throughout her life, and two brothers, James Jackson, Jr. and Wong Jackson Sr. Her legacy continues to live on through her grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and a ton of friends who were touched by her loving nature.
For many years, Debbie poured her heart into her work in food service as a cook, where she not only shared her culinary talents but also her warmth and camaraderie with colleagues and patrons alike. Her ability to turn a simple meal into a gathering of friends was one of her many gifts.
Debbie's passion for dance was well-known; she could often be found moving to the rhythm of her favorite tunes, bringing smiles to the faces of those around her. Her love for eating was matched by her love for cooking, and her dishes were the highlight of many community events and family gatherings. Debbie's commitment to community service was unwavering, and she dedicated countless hours to helping those in need, always with a smile and an encouraging word.
Above all, Debbie was loving, funny, and friendly. Her sense of humor was a source of joy and laughter in any setting, and her friendliness knew no bounds. She had the rare ability to make every person she met feel like the most important person in the world. Debbie's conversations were never short on fellowship and genuine interest in the lives of others, and her presence was a comfort to many.
As we say goodbye to Debbie Walker, we celebrate a life lived with boundless love and an open heart. Her memory will continue to inspire us to live with laughter, to serve with passion, and to cherish the community of friends and family that she held so dear. Debbie's light shined brightly during her time with us, and it will continue to shine in the hearts of those who loved her.
A visitation will be held on June 17, 2025 from 1-2 PM, and a memorial service will be held from 2-3 PM, at the Cremation Society of SC - Westville Funerals, 6010 White Horse Rd, Greenville, SC 29611.
