Debra Jean Poole, affectionately known as Debbie to her friends and family, passed away on May 26, 2025, at the age of 63 in Greenville, South Carolina. Born on the last day of 1961 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Debbie's life was a testament to her friendly nature, adventurous spirit, and gentle soul.
Debbie's early life in Charlotte laid the foundation for a woman of remarkable kindness and dedication. Her pursuit of knowledge and a desire to help others led her to Midlands Tech in Columbia, SC, where she earned an associate degree in nursing. Her career was marked by her meticulous work as a medical coder, first with Carolina Medical Review in Columbia and later with AnMed in Anderson.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Debbie was a woman of diverse interests and hobbies. She found joy in the simplicity of hiking, exploring the beauty of nature, and the thrill of conquering new trails. Her love for adventure extended to the digital world, where she enjoyed playing Minecraft (with her son Matthew), building and exploring virtual landscapes with the same enthusiasm she showed in the real world.
Debbie's heart held a special place for animals, and she dedicated much of her free time to volunteering at local animal shelters. Her gentle touch and soothing presence brought comfort to countless animals in need, reflecting her innate compassion for all living creatures.
Family was the cornerstone of Debbie's life. She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas Marion Poole, who stood by her side in every chapter of their journey together. Her legacy continues through her son, Matthew Poole, and her stepdaughters, Ashley Brandon (David), Stephanie McGese (Maggese) (Corman) and Kimberly (Jake). Debbie's role as a grandmother to her two (seven) step-grandchildren filled her with immense pride and joy. Her brother, Dr. Steve Milam (Linda), will fondly remember the bond they shared throughout the years.
Debbie's life was a portrait of warmth and generosity. Those who knew her will remember her for the friendship she offered so freely, the adventures she embraced with open arms, and the gentle kindness she extended to both people and animals alike. Her memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her.
As we bid farewell to Debra Jean Poole, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the indelible mark she left on the world. Her spirit, characterized by her friendly demeanor, adventurous pursuits, and gentle kindness, will continue to inspire those who knew her.
