Donald Marion Rogers Jr., known affectionately as Don, passed away on June 18, 2024, at the age of 80, in Moore, SC. Born on October 8, 1943, in Spartanburg, SC, Don was a remarkably wise man, humble and kind with exceptional handiness, and a loving nature that touched the hearts of all who knew him.
Don is survived by his beloved wife, Ann Weaver Rogers, with whom he shared over 60 years of love and companionship. He was a devoted father to his son, Reg Rogers (Sonya Fore), and his daughters, Amy Rogers Zimmer (Roland Zimmer) and Alexis Rogers. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren, Julia Zimmer, Heinrich Zimmer, and Ramsey Rogers. Don also leaves behind his caring sister, Julie Buckner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald M. Rogers Sr. and Ruth Strange Rogers and his sister, Glenda Bull.
From an early age, Don exhibited a commitment to excellence and service. His achievement as an Eagle Scout set the foundation for a life marked by dedication and a strong work ethic. For 30 years, Don served as a lineman for Duke Power, demonstrating not only his steadfastness but also his unwavering dedication to his community.
Don's passion for mechanics and his talent for engine building earned him the nickname "Dyno Don," a testament to his stellar mechanical abilities. He was the owner of the Marshall Tucker Band and Charlie Daniels Band-sponsored late model sportsman car in the 70's. This racing enterprise was a point of local pride and a symbol of his many talents. His reputation as a master craftsman extended beyond the racetrack; there wasn't much he couldn't fix, making him everyone's go-to guy for any mechanical challenge.
Those who knew Don will remember him as a fountain of knowledge, always willing to lend a hand or share his expertise. His work was not just a job; it was an embodiment of his passion for problem-solving and innovation. Don's legacy as a skilled tradesman and community member will not be forgotten.
