Dorothy was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 17, 1932 to Lottie Alverta and William Thomas Sharpe. She later migrated to Hertford N.C., while there she married her childhood sweetheart, Jesse Jenkins (deceased 1979) and they had a child, Lottie Rosetta Jenkins (Rose) in 1951. Dorothy moved back to New York with her sister, Bernice Eleanor Sharpe (who preceded her in death on September 6, 2021). During that time she met Robert Ford and welcomed a daughter Regina Marie Jenkins in 1956.
During her time in New York, Dorothy worked at several jobs. She worked for a shoe company, Swingline Staples, and Antico car parts company. While at Antico she met and married Roland Jeanty and welcomed her baby girl Danielle Renee Jeanty in 1977.
In her younger days Dorothy loved music and singing, some of her favorite artists were Dina Washington, Brook Benton and the Manhattans. She was also a lover of tennis and enjoyed watching her two favorite T.V. shows Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. In the late 80's Dorothy moved to Greenville, SC to be closer to her beloved sister and worked at Dayco Products in Easley, SC where she retired in 2004.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Roland (June 5, 2003) and 2 of her grandchildren Kenute A. Barrett aka Kenny (December 3, 2019) and Keymone Barrett aka KiKi (June 26, 2023). Left to mourn her are her 3 daughters, 2 son-in-laws Ken and Randall, 6 grandchildren Wayne Nesbitt, Jr. (Jay), Erik Nesbitt (Bubba), Daena Nesbitt, Shantel Barrett (Shanie), Angelique Barrett (Angie) and Jeanty Scott, 5 great grandchildren Rynei, DJ, Aliyah, Ethan and Christian , 1 niece Jeanne Jackson, 1 nephew Broderick Jones (wife Karen), along with a host of extended family and friends.
A memorial service has been scheduled for Monday, September 15, 2025 at 1:00 PM. The service will be held at Sans Souci Church, 3100 Old Buncombe Road, Greenville, SC 29609.
