January 2, 1947 — May 4, 2024

Greenville, SC

Ellen E. Bowen, a cherished soul known affectionately as Ellen to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2024, in her hometown of Greenville, SC. Born on January 2, 1947, in the same close-knit community, Ellen's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and creativity that touched everyone she knew.

Ellen's journey began as the beloved daughter of the late John Lemual Holtzclaw and Ellen Inez Warlick. She grew up alongside her brother, Jimmy Holtzclaw, in the warm embrace of Greenville, where she would eventually meet and marry her loving husband, Steven Tony Bowen. Together, they built a life filled with joy and companionship.

A proud alumni of Parker High School, Ellen carried the values of her education throughout her life. Her work ethic shone brightly during her impressive 27-year tenure at Michelin, where she retired with the respect and admiration of her colleagues. Ellen's professionalism and dedication to her role left a lasting impact on all who worked alongside her.

Ellen's passions extended far beyond her professional achievements. She was a master crafter and card maker, often found immersed in her latest project, creating beautiful pieces that were as unique and heartfelt as she was. Her love for crafting was only matched by her love for her family. Ellen cherished every moment spent with her husband, Steven, and relished the time she could surround herself with her loved ones, including her stepson, Brian (Shannon) Bowen; stepdaughter, Summer Ellenburg; step-granddaughters, Christian (Mikey) Thetford and Hanna Bowen; and step-grandsons, Brayden Bowen and the late Jacob Bowen.

Travel was another of Ellen's joys, and she held a special fondness for Black Mountain, a place that captured her heart and spirit with its natural beauty. Her travels there were among the most treasured times, allowing her to explore and make lasting memories.

Ellen's legacy continues through her adoring great-grandchildren, Rowan Thetford, Rylan Shields, and Aspen Bradshaw, who will carry forward the love and lessons she imparted. Her warmth and guidance have left an indelible mark on their young lives.

Ellen's life was a reflection of the love she had for her family and the passion she had for her interests. Her presence was a beacon of light and comfort, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Ellen's memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories shared, the crafts created, and the love that endures within the hearts of her family and friends.

Ellen E. Bowen lived a life full of purpose, love, and creativity. As we bid her farewell, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the enduring impact she made on the world around her. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, just as the stars continue to shine long after the night has passed.
