Errol McCoy

Errol was born, September 9, 1938, at the age of 88, transitioned peacefully to his final resting place on September 18, 2026, in Greenville,SC. 

He was born to Wilford and Ethel McCoy of Iva, SC, and was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Cora (Little Boy) Metz; his sister, Norma Jean (Ray) Waters; his brother, Billy McCoy; his sister-in- law, Judy Bryant; and his mother- and father-in-law, Mary Lou and Carroll Erwin.

He is survived by his brother, Melvin Hansel McCoy; and brothers- in-law, Ronald Bryant and Jim Erwin. Also, survived by nieces, nephews and many cousins. He is also survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Carolyn Sue, who was the love of his life. He was a devoted father to Julia (Nelson) Williams and Glenn (Pam) McCoy, and a loving grandfather to Tim (Aubrey) and Julie Williams, Erin and Merideth McCoy, Brittany (Zach) Pike, and Tiffany (Jake) Peer. He was a proud great-grandfather to Eleanor and Elouise Williams, Layla and Isaac Pike, and Ava and Amelia Peer.

Errol was a graduate of Crescent High School in Iva and began his career with J. E. Sirrine Engineering Firm in Greenville, SC. He and Carolyn Sue moved to Greenville in 1963. He was a very active athlete, playing football and baseball in high school. Afterwards, he played softball, ran in local races, and became an avid tennis player, continuing to play until the age of 80. While playing tennis, his team went to the National Finals in Palm Springs, CA. They did not win, but they had a wonderful experience and even experienced an earthquake.

Errol will be remembered for his love of family, his warm spirit, and his enjoyment of life. His family will carry his memory in their hearts and honor the life he shared with them.
