Ethel Bernice Going Anderson DuBose, passed away peacefully in her sleep September 10, 2025 at 99.5yrs old, in Greenville,SC.

She was born April 25,1926 in Columbia, SC to the late Walter Franklin and Allie Mack Going. She was predeceased by her sister Jacqueline Going Maxwell (Keels) and brother Walter Franklin Going Jr. (Eleanor).

Her mother being a national Camellia judge, inspired her to plant hundreds of camellia brushes throughout acres of land at her 200 Byrd Blvd home in Greenville. With each new baby that was welcomed into the family, she would cross pollinate (2) camellias and name the new shoot for that baby....thus being "Waddy McFall", "Walter Going", "Charles Ellis", "Margret Lucretia" and "John Fewell". The beautiful blossoms on these bushes are still being enjoyed today.

Ethel was such an accomplished artist, she painted life sized oil portraits of each of her 5 children. She and one of her dear best friends, the late Connie Timmons (Mrs Bill), enjoyed volunteering their gift of painting by helping to paint scenery at "The Greenville Little Theatre" (now "Greenville Theatre").

Quite the dog lover she and the family were, they had a large variety of many breeds through out the years; in later years, she and husband Wade, raised standard poodles to train/show and sell, and dearly loved their sweet favorite smaller poodle, "Miss Bee" who traveled everywhere with them. She also loved spending time with the family parrot "Benny," teaching him to talk, sing and "show his wings"! He is now in his older years, a donated resident parrot at Bush Gardens in Florida.

The family always enjoyed our times at her Wild Dunes beach house that survived hurricane Hugo, but unfortunately neighbors on each side did not. The grandchilden loved collecting sand dollars to dry and make Christmas ornaments for family and friends....a very special event was at around 4:00/4:30 each day, many different varieties of birds would come to the porch bird feeders for an afternoon meal. "Grandmother" would help them identify the many different breeds and one year gave each of them a ceramic Christmas tree ornament she had made of a "painted bunting" her favorite.

After becoming a widow, she enjoyed traveling on her boat to the Caribbean and many other water adventures on the ocean and lakes, with her son Walter being her captain.

Ethel was a Sustaining member of the Junior League, the DAR, several garden clubs, playing bridge with her friends, the last surviving charter/founding member of "The Carolinian Debutante Club" in Greenville.

She was an excellent golfer and accomplished scoring "3" holes in one! The Greenville Country Club honored her with "The Ethel Anderson Nine Holers Golf Tournament" many years ago in her honor. She is now survived by her last living best friend/golfing / bridge partner Catherine Merritt (Mrs. Bill) who is 102 yrs old.

Years ago when the family enjoyed some summers at Sea Island, Georgia, the late beloved Perry Como and his wife Billie and their family were their next door neighbors....Ethel and Billie looked so much alike and enjoyed the same hobbies, it was hard to tell them apart and confusing to so many.

Family times were always enjoyed at the DuBose Montreat Home in NC. She and Wade would always make the DuBose family recipe of "the delicious beaten biscuits", which was always a tradition when family was there. Our precious "Granddaddy Wade" actually made the "beaten biscuit" machine when he was younger.

Ethel was a wonderful caregiver to her mother "Allie Going"who lived to be 102 yrs old, celebrating her "100th Birthday" at Montreat, with all of her family and friends attending this special event. Allie lived her last years with Berny and Wade at their Colorado home in Denver.

Preceding her in death was her beloved precious husband Henry Wade DuBose, Jr., her loving precious sons: Walter Going Anderson and John Fewell Anderson. Her surviving children are : Waddy McFall "Andy"Anderson,III (June Barton Anderson); Charles Ellis Anderson; Margaret Lucretia "Cretia" Anderson; Judy Gulledge Anderson (the late John Fewell Anderson).

She is also survived by her grandchildren: "LauraWright"Anderson Edwards, W. McFall Anderson,IV; Brandon Anderson, Colin Anderson; Amy Anderson; Presley Compton Singleton, Caroline Compton Hartley; Dr. Anna Anderson Goldston, Elizabeth Anderson Warlick; Emily Campbell Kelley. (16) great grandchildren and (2) great-great grandchildren; very special nieces: Dr. Lyn Going, Mrs. Mary Going McIntosh, Ms. Lucy Maxwell; nephew: Walter Maxwell.

Preceding her in death was former husband and father of their 5 children, Waddy McFall Anderson, Jr.

Mom was a very unique person sharing her love and talents with so many. She was a wonderful cook and loved entertaining. She was a member of the Presbyterian church.
