Our Mother, Evelyn Anne Marina Davino, née Cator, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025 at age 90 in Greenville, South Carolina.
Evelyn was born December 13, 1934 in Surbiton, then within the County of Surrey, England. She was adopted by Alfred and Violet Cator of 33 Priory Road, Surbiton, where Evelyn spent her childhood.
She had a magical childhood filled with garden picnics with her dolls, playing with her bunny and tortoises, and taking treasured outings to the beach.
The blonde, curly headed child grew up during World War II. She slept in a tiny space under the stairs during the bombing of London.
As a young woman, she met and married Thomas E. Davino, a “Yank” from Connecticut, who was an airman stationed in England.
Much of Mother’s early married life was spent raising six children; Lorraine, Mark, Jacqueline, Thomas, Michael, and Nicola. As an Air Force family, they moved frequently, living in England, Texas, Connecticut, California, and Michigan.
Evelyn lost her husband Tom in 1989, while they lived in Connecticut, and she continued to work until retirement at age 70.
She retired to South Carolina, where she enjoyed her dogs, her kitty, knitting, her garden, reading, bird watching, and her evening sherry. She cherished her children, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren, and many trips to the beach.
Evelyn lived a long, happy, and fulfilling life. She was known for her fierce independence, a lively sense of humor, her smart fashion sense, and making every home cozy and beautiful. Our mother faced each chapter in her life with strength and resilience and adapted to aging with grace and positivity, always finding joy in the things that sustained her.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas, daughter Nikki, and son Michael. She is survived by children Lorraine Berquist (Lon) from Texas, Mark Davino (Rebekah) from South Carolina , Jackie Waters (Michael) from Louisiana, Thomas Davino (Judy) from California; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Our family cherishes all the memories that we shared throughout Mom’s long life. The family takes comfort in knowing that Mother will be surrounded by the love of her husband Thomas, her son Michael, her daughter Nikki, and her beloved parents.
