Fred was also a man of many interests and a full, active life. He was a runner and an avid cyclist, and he enjoyed the discipline, freedom, and energy that came with both. He loved to read, and he valued the knowledge, imagination, and perspective found in books. Travel brought him joy, and he appreciated the opportunity to see new places and experience the world beyond his own doorstep. He also loved sports, and he followed them with enthusiasm and genuine enjoyment. In all of these pursuits, Fred showed the same adventurous spirit that defined so much of his life.
